Reposting My Review
I picked up two US 5 needles in 2024 for a large square blanket I'm making. The needles I received were not color coded with a clear cable as shown in the picture. The needles are instead a beautiful silver with a thin black cable. The needle size is engraved on the needle near the cable. They aren't metal like Boye needles, but appear to be metal coated. This makes the needles a bit grabby against the yarn.
The cables come all curled up like cheap cables do, but you can straighten them with some safe usage of heat. Everyone's seen the tutorials of that. I am in LOVE with the cable. Once altered, the cable isn't as stiff as the curl in it would make you believe. Nothing like a ChiaGoo needle though, I assume, but it's good enough for me.
I dislike the join. There's a pressed out flat section of the cable near the join. The yarn gets caught on that. Then the end of the cable flares out to reach the diameter of the needle. The yarn gets caught on that. And THEN your yarn has to get past the bend of the needle itself. It's almost like a 50-60 degree bend! Yarn gets caught on that. It takes some finagling, but you can work around it.
All in all, I'm pleased with what I got for the price I paid. They're a nice step up from the old Boye Needles I have.
