I've boughten Red Heart yarn for years. It's great quality.

Granny Square 3-pack Yarn

I love these color -coordinated packages. They are the perfect amount to make a 60-inch prayer shawl. And I don't have to worry about perfectly matching the colors. It's done for me!

Granny squares yarn

It really does work quite well! I had to fiddle with the hook size (and material) a bit to get the gauge correct, but the squares are very smart. Using a metal hook vs a wooden hook does affect the tension if you need to fine tune it.
